🔑 Does Form 5500-EZ Change After a Solo 401k Entity Switch?
Posted by George Blower on October 21, 2026 at 7:04 amQuestion: We formed an S corporation and got a new business EIN. Does my Solo 401k plan EIN change, and what happens to Form 5500-EZ?
Answer: A Solo 401k plan keeps its plan EIN after an entity change, even when the business obtains a new and separate business EIN. alue above $250,000 file it, and later filings must show the S corporation and its new business EIN as sponsor.
The form includes a section for the prior name and EIN. Completing it lets the IRS connect the earlier and later filings.
A plan that has not been filing Form 5500-EZ has no filing to update.
